Okay, shooters or "shmups" (shoot em' ups) are my fav genre of game....period. Radiant Silvergun is on of the best ever made in my opinion and the Saturn does it proud.
In the shooter community its still debated whether or not it is the best...some believe Cave makes the best shooters (I do not like Cave shooters).
RS will go down in history as one of the best at least. Thank you Treasure.

Radiant Silvergun has great graphics and sound, but overall it sucks, IMO. Many Saturn Shooters like Battle Garegga or Layer Section are much better. RS's gameplay is too strictly focused on memorization. I think Treasure learned from RS when they made Ikaruga, which is a much better balanced game, and a lot more fun to play. I will tell you that Cave make the best shooters, btw. Espgaluda is my favorite shooter ever.

Ikaruga and Layer Section for the win though i have not played Radiant Silvergun yet. I only watched someone playing it and i was not really that much impressed. of course it looks cool and stuff, but I think its overrated. And Cave makes great shooters too yet

So many Cave lovers, jeeze. Most million bullet shooters suck to me (with a few exceptions). Thats all cave makes.
My fav shmup maker is COMPILE hands down.
Next would be between, Technosoft, Treasure and G-Rev. ___________________
RS was better than Ikaruga...Ikaruga is way more memory based than any other shooter I've ever played....it the closest to being the same game everytime you play it, nothing random about it. RS also had sub games. Only thing I don't like about RS is the current price. I bought it when it first hit stores...but now I've seen it go for almost $200 on Ebay.
If I paid $200 for RS I'd say say it was overated too. Especially if I bought it after the next, next gen systems were already out and other more impressive stuff was out there. Had you played it when it first came out you'd appreciate it more.

I did play it when it first came out, and I did like it better back in the day. The technical side still holds up great today, but now I just believe Ikaruga surpassed it in every aspect.
What I don't like about Radiant Silvergun is that it forces you to play for score, in order to power up your weapons. Also, I'm not a big fan of the whole hidden bonus thing. Ikaruga leaves it up to you how you want to play it. You can just blast right through it, or try to build huge chains. I like this freedom it gives you.
I love Compile, Technosoft, Treasure and G.Rev as well, but if you simply write of Cave's works as "just million-bullet shooters", you probably haven't played them very extensively yet. Each one has its own unique nuances and game mechanics. Plus, they are the last remaining shooters with beautiful 2D graphics.

My favorite Cave Shooter is Espgaluda (PS2). It's not so hard, very accesible and has a really fun scoring system. ^^ The port is really excellent and includes a Bonus Superplay DVD.
Mushihimesama (PS2) is really great too.
There's more great stuff as arcade PCBs only, but they're quite expensive at the moment.

Yes. But that would take up too much space. Just tell me what system you want to know.
